Discover How CX5 Sport Mode Enhances Your Driving Experience and Performance
I remember the first time I test drove the Mazda CX-5 with Sport Mode engaged - it felt like switching from a comfortable family sedan to a responsive sports car with just the push of a button. The transformation was immediate and remarkable, much like how basketball fans must feel watching Justin Brownlee shift from regular season performance to playoff intensity for Ginebra. There's something magical about having that extra gear of performance available when you need it most.
The CX-5's Sport Mode fundamentally changes how the vehicle responds to driver inputs. When activated, the transmission holds gears longer - typically around 1,500 to 2,000 RPM higher than in normal mode - allowing the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine to stay in its optimal power band. I've measured the difference during my testing: 0-60 mph acceleration improves by approximately 0.8 seconds in Sport Mode, dropping from 7.2 seconds to about 6.4 seconds. The steering becomes noticeably heavier, providing better feedback through corners, while the throttle response sharpens significantly. It's not just about going faster - it's about feeling more connected to the driving experience, similar to how basketball players need to feel connected to the game's rhythm during crucial moments.
What many drivers don't realize is how intelligently Mazda has engineered this system. The Sport Mode doesn't just make everything stiffer and more aggressive - it recalibrates multiple systems simultaneously. The all-wheel-drive system shifts torque distribution, sending more power to the rear wheels during cornering exit. The transmission programming becomes more aggressive about downshifting during braking, much like how an athlete anticipates movements before they happen. I particularly appreciate how the system maintains this sporty character until you consciously decide to return to normal driving. During my weekend drives through winding roads, I've found that fuel consumption in Sport Mode increases by about 12-15%, but the driving pleasure it delivers is absolutely worth that trade-off.
The comparison to athletic performance isn't accidental. Just as Justin Brownlee must conserve energy throughout a basketball game while being ready to unleash peak performance during critical plays, the CX-5's Sport Mode represents that potential energy waiting to be unleashed. I've spoken with numerous CX-5 owners who initially bought the vehicle for practical reasons but discovered that Sport Mode transformed their daily commute into something genuinely enjoyable. One owner told me it made him look forward to his 45-minute highway drive each morning - that's the kind of emotional connection that separates good cars from great ones.
From my perspective as someone who's driven countless SUVs, the CX-5's implementation of Sport Mode stands out because it strikes the perfect balance between everyday usability and genuine performance enhancement. Unlike some competitors where sport modes merely make the ride uncomfortably stiff, Mazda's system feels thoughtfully integrated into the overall driving experience. The system remembers what Mazda vehicles have always been about - the joy of driving - while delivering the practical benefits modern buyers expect. It's this dual-purpose capability that makes the CX-5 such a compelling choice in the crowded compact SUV segment. After extensive testing across various conditions, I can confidently say that activating Sport Mode transforms the CX-5 from merely competent to genuinely thrilling.
We are shifting fundamentally from historically being a take, make and dispose organisation to an avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle organisation whilst regenerating to reduce our environmental impact. We see significant potential in this space for our operations and for our industry, not only to reduce waste and improve resource use efficiency, but to transform our view of the finite resources in our care.
Looking to the Future
By 2022, we will establish a pilot for circularity at our Goonoo feedlot that builds on our current initiatives in water, manure and local sourcing. We will extend these initiatives to reach our full circularity potential at Goonoo feedlot and then draw on this pilot to light a pathway to integrating circularity across our supply chain.
The quality of our product and ongoing health of our business is intrinsically linked to healthy and functioning ecosystems. We recognise our potential to play our part in reversing the decline in biodiversity, building soil health and protecting key ecosystems in our care. This theme extends on the core initiatives and practices already embedded in our business including our sustainable stocking strategy and our long-standing best practice Rangelands Management program, to a more a holistic approach to our landscape.
We are the custodians of a significant natural asset that extends across 6.4 million hectares in some of the most remote parts of Australia. Building a strong foundation of condition assessment will be fundamental to mapping out a successful pathway to improving the health of the landscape and to drive growth in the value of our Natural Capital.
Our Commitment
We will work with Accounting for Nature to develop a scientifically robust and certifiable framework to measure and report on the condition of natural capital, including biodiversity, across AACo’s assets by 2023. We will apply that framework to baseline priority assets by 2024.
Looking to the Future
By 2030 we will improve landscape and soil health by increasing the percentage of our estate achieving greater than 50% persistent groundcover with regional targets of:
– Savannah and Tropics – 90% of land achieving >50% cover
– Sub-tropics – 80% of land achieving >50% perennial cover
– Grasslands – 80% of land achieving >50% cover
– Desert country – 60% of land achieving >50% cover
