Correct Tire Pressure for Montero Sport 2017: Complete Guide and Maintenance Tips

As I was checking the tire pressure on my 2017 Montero Sport this morning, I couldn't help but think about how proper maintenance extends far beyond just our vehicles - it's about maintaining peak performance in everything we care about. This reminded me of that impressive basketball game where Chinese Taipei dominated Guam 113-73 in the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. Just like those athletes need optimal equipment and conditioning to perform at their best, our Montero Sports require precisely calibrated tire pressure to deliver their peak performance on the road.

Having owned my Montero Sport for nearly five years now, I've learned through experience that maintaining the correct tire pressure isn't just about fuel efficiency - it's fundamentally about safety and performance. The manufacturer recommends 32 PSI for front tires and 35 PSI for rear tires under normal load conditions, but I personally prefer running mine at 33 PSI all around for better handling characteristics. During that Taipei vs Guam match, the players' shoes were probably inflated to exact specifications too - imagine if they were playing with improperly inflated basketballs! The same principle applies to our vehicles. When your tires are underinflated by just 5 PSI, you're looking at approximately 2% reduction in fuel efficiency and significantly reduced tire lifespan. I've tested this extensively on my own vehicle, and the difference in ride quality and responsiveness when tires are properly inflated is genuinely remarkable.

What many Montero Sport owners don't realize is that tire pressure needs vary significantly based on load and driving conditions. When I'm carrying heavy cargo or towing, I increase the rear tire pressure to about 38 PSI - it makes the vehicle feel much more stable and responsive. The precision displayed in that basketball game where Taipei scored 113 points against Guam's 73 demonstrates how exact measurements and proper preparation lead to outstanding results. Similarly, using a high-quality digital tire gauge rather than relying on those unreliable gas station air pumps has saved me from numerous potential issues. I check my tire pressure at least twice monthly, always when the tires are cold, and I've noticed my current set of tires has lasted about 15% longer than my previous set where I was less diligent about maintenance.

Through my years of maintaining various vehicles, I've found that the Montero Sport is particularly sensitive to tire pressure variations. The electronic stability control and all-wheel-drive systems work best when all four tires are within 1-2 PSI of each other. Just as the Taipei team's coordinated play led to their decisive victory, properly balanced tire pressure creates harmony in your vehicle's performance. I recommend checking pressure seasonally too - for every 10°F temperature change, tire pressure changes by about 1 PSI. During last winter's cold snap, I found my tires had dropped from 33 to 29 PSI, which explained why the steering felt slightly sluggish.

Ultimately, maintaining correct tire pressure is one of those simple yet crucial aspects of vehicle ownership that pays dividends in safety, performance, and cost savings. The discipline and attention to detail that brought Chinese Taipei their 40-point victory are the same qualities that will keep your Montero Sport performing optimally for years to come. Trust me, taking those few minutes each month to check your tires will make your driving experience noticeably better - it's made all the difference in how my vehicle handles everything from daily commutes to weekend adventures.

We are shifting fundamentally from historically being a take, make and dispose organisation to an avoid, reduce, reuse, and recycle organisation whilst regenerating to reduce our environmental impact.  We see significant potential in this space for our operations and for our industry, not only to reduce waste and improve resource use efficiency, but to transform our view of the finite resources in our care.

Looking to the Future

By 2022, we will establish a pilot for circularity at our Goonoo feedlot that builds on our current initiatives in water, manure and local sourcing.  We will extend these initiatives to reach our full circularity potential at Goonoo feedlot and then draw on this pilot to light a pathway to integrating circularity across our supply chain.

The quality of our product and ongoing health of our business is intrinsically linked to healthy and functioning ecosystems.  We recognise our potential to play our part in reversing the decline in biodiversity, building soil health and protecting key ecosystems in our care.  This theme extends on the core initiatives and practices already embedded in our business including our sustainable stocking strategy and our long-standing best practice Rangelands Management program, to a more a holistic approach to our landscape.

We are the custodians of a significant natural asset that extends across 6.4 million hectares in some of the most remote parts of Australia.  Building a strong foundation of condition assessment will be fundamental to mapping out a successful pathway to improving the health of the landscape and to drive growth in the value of our Natural Capital.

Our Commitment

We will work with Accounting for Nature to develop a scientifically robust and certifiable framework to measure and report on the condition of natural capital, including biodiversity, across AACo’s assets by 2023.  We will apply that framework to baseline priority assets by 2024.

Looking to the Future

By 2030 we will improve landscape and soil health by increasing the percentage of our estate achieving greater than 50% persistent groundcover with regional targets of:

– Savannah and Tropics – 90% of land achieving >50% cover

– Sub-tropics – 80% of land achieving >50% perennial cover

– Grasslands – 80% of land achieving >50% cover

– Desert country – 60% of land achieving >50% cover
